The Electrical Distribution System development is influenced by many surrounding factors, which means high demands but at the same time turns it into a challenge for us. YAZAKI, as a worldwide leader of automotive electrical distribution systems successfully meets this challenge through advantages by focusing designs on industry and society requirements and trends.
Some examples of YAZAKI “designing for” expertise:
Design for Networking
The combination of long term experience and the usage of the latest simulation & design tools allows YAZAKI to design reliable vehicle networks with full interference suppression. In addition, the architecture for the data networks is fully aligned with the power distribution architecture.
To support this activity, YAZAKI is an active member of the MOST, LIN & Flexray organisations.
Design for ’KAIZEN’ (Continous improvement)
YAZAKI does not only design for a single product but for the entire vehicle needs and for a functional and reliable EDS. Continuous improvements and incremental developments (KAIZEN) ensure ongoing customer satisfaction and the highest level of quality.
Example of design for ‘KAIZEN’
- Waterproofness (e.g problem zones grommets and ground-termination)
- Acoustic Noise (e.g. grommet sealing and noise reduction)
- Wiring harness routing (e.g. sliding seat)
- And others
Design for Integration
Packaging space is vanishing and will not expand in the future. In addition, other system technologies will use the already smaller space. YAZAKI has experience in this competition situation and is preparing for the future with further solutions.
Examples are:
- Lamp Integration
The wiring harness is directly connected via insulation displacement to the component. This system eliminates the connector and improves the packaging.
- Meter Junction Box
Instrument Cluster and Junction Box are combined in one product (see picture above)
- Battery Fuse Terminal
Power distribution and fusing are gathered in one component directly at the battery.
Success stories: Battery Fuse Terminal
- Power Module
Fuse and Relay are integrated in one component
- Multi Fuselink
Different fusing elements are integrated into one stamped product
Design for Environment
Environmental performance in the automotive industry is becoming ever-more important. New vehicle programs now have several important targets for environmental product design to minimise the impact on the end-of-life process, including re-usability, recyclability and recoverability.
YAZAKI Europe Limited has implemented a Design for Environment (DfE) Guideline. This is embedded in the overal design guidelines and is in excess of the required legislation.
